Welcome to Norwood Primary School

Norwood Primary is a school of approximately 500 students.  We pride ourselves on consistently working hard to provide an educational environment that meets the needs of all students.   An essential part of this is family partnerships; we welcome and encourage families to take part in children’s learning through two-way communication between school and home.

Whilst our curriculum content is derived from the Australian Curriculum, our pedagogical approach to the delivery of this is that of Inquiry-based learning.    Inquiry-based learning is a highly effective method of teaching.  It involves students having a more intense and active role in their learning and allows them to work through learning in ways that challenges and inspires. The goal of the learning process is engaging student curiosity and cultivating capacity for deep thinking, and ultimately developing essential life-long skills for self-directed independent learning.

Norwood Primary has high expectation for a safe and orderly learning environment.  Our expectations for students, families and visitors to our school are guided by the Tasmanian Department of Education’s values of Respect, Courage, Growth & Aspiration.  As learners these are encompassed by the development of Learning Assets within our Inquiry-based learning approach; we strive to develop our learners as effective Researchers, Contributors, Collaborators, Self-managers, Communicators, Thinkers.
